Race For The Cure Coming to Savannah
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – The Komen Race for the Cure is the world’s largest and most successful fundraising and education event for breast cancer and now that race is coming to Savannah.

Today, The Greater Savannah Sports Council made the announcement at its annual award luncheon.

The city will host its first ever Komen Race for the Rure on April 18, 2009.

Savannah will join the more than 100 cities and towns across the nation and world that hold the 5k run and walk each year.

Race director Robert Espinoza said this is a huge deal for Savannah.

“It takes awhile to get a race for the cure,” he said. “We’re really proud to get it.”

Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister Susan B. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer. In 1982 that promise became the Susan B. Komen race for the cure which launched the breast cancer movement.
